It’s been a whirlwind of a year! But we are pleased to say that in 2021 ‘The Pear Coffee House’ is now open for coffee, treats and chats Monday to Friday from 7am until 2.30pm, and on Saturday from 8am til 12pm.
We have a number of regular activities at the coffee house, and will keep working on ways that we can stay connected and keep getting to know each other. This is really important to us and to our community. Head over to the ‘Neighbourhood Program’ section of our website for all the activities happening these days, and keep an eye on our Facebook page.
The Pear is a neighbourhood coffee house and meeting place. A space at the heart of our community where you can meet your neighbours, enjoy great coffee and small treats. But The Pear is more than just a coffeeshop. The Pear hosts regular free community-driven events, conversations, workshops, get-togethers and other regular activities, services and programs. We do all of this with the support from neighbourhood volunteers.
The establishment of The Pear was proudly supported by the Government of South Australia as the recipient of a Fund My Neighbourhood grant. We are also proudly backed by and work closely together with aged care organisation ECH (Enabling Confidence at Home). We have received funding from the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, through their Places Grants, to host a number of community events.
In 2021, The Pear Neighbourhood Node became one of 10 proud recipients of funding through the Department of Social Services ‘Village Hubs’ grant project. This grant is managed by Independent Living Australia, and will enable us to expand our neighbourhood activity program and develop a neighbour-to-neighbour volunteering program that supports vulnerable people in our community. Like the other Village Hubs around Australia, the grant will help us to enhance social connections in our local area, increase individual wellbeing and create a resilient and supportive community.
